RARE! Antique Advertising Cards | Gold Foil Art | H.J. Holbrook & Co Ladies Fine Shoes - Liebig Company - 6" x 8" MATTED and FRAMED

In the late 1800s/early 1900s, many companies created advertising cards to promote their wares. These cards often have whimsical illustrations and in this case, both are printed with a gold foil background to reflect a more luxurious, stand-out look. YOUR CHOICE OF TWO... 

The horizontal card is an advertisement for Liebig's Company Extract of Meat. That's right. Extract of Meat! It features a young child dressed as a chef wearing a jar of the extract with his kitchen staff around him. Ahead of its time, this is a wonderful example of costumed characters promoting a product, an advertising technique still used today.

The vertical card is an advertisement for H.J. Holbrook & Co. Ladies Fine Shoes, featuring an illustration of a lady in all her finery with very fine shoes from the late 1800s.

We've mounted the cards on acid free mat board to create a custom mat to set off the artwork, then set them in new gold frames to highlight the gold leaf quality of the artwork. Please note: both cards have been previously glued to something, so the backs are no longer in mint condition.

We're offering these pieces separately for $35.00 each, or together as a set for $65.00. Ideal for antique art collectors, or any room in the home that could use a touch of 19th century whimsy.
