This 477-page book looks at Norwegian life and immigration through the lens of two clans, the Lie/Lee and Fosse families. The author focuses on the lives, families, and ancestors of Tom O. Lee and his wife Rannai [Fosse] Lee, who lived in the historical district of Sogn and immigrated to midwestern United States. It starts with the early history of Norway, progresses through 216 primary Lie/Lee ancestors and 82 primary Fosse ancestors, and ends with Tom O. and Rannai [Fosse] Lee farming in Minnesota, as the genealogy of the two families merge. This exploration results in an in-depth chronicle of eight to nine generations, starting in the early 1600s and ending in 2004, and in the process, provides a story of how Norwegians lived and immigrated. The author uses a large of number of color and black and white photographs, copies of letters, personal papers, official records, interviews of ancestors, and numerous quotes and research summaries of experts to bring Norwegian life and immigration alive.
