Joseph Guyton Genealogy: From England to Maryland and across the American South Paperback – March 18, 2021

A large Guyton family in America has its roots in colonial Maryland. Benjamin and John Guyton left their family behind in Norwich, England, the country's weaving center. Some descendants stayed in Maryland while others migrated westward. This book is an extensive genealogy of the descendants of one of John's sons, Joseph Guyton, who migrated south and west to South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, and Arizona. Where possible, the author offers historical context to better connect with the people and their cares. In a huge appendix, there is a nearly 2,500 person family tree of the Guytons that covers twelve generations. African-American families are included, when known. The body of the book concentrates on certain branches of the family. These members can be easily cross-referenced with the entire family tree in the appendix. The book also contains stories of especially interesting family members, including the first First Lady of Arizona; the intriguing and large family of Guyton doctors from Mississippi; the global Guyton and Harrington Mule Company; the Guytons in early Texas history; a strong inter-racial relationship in the late 1800s in Mississippi; among others.
